In the town, you will find many of the familiar shops, with the wizard’s hut being ventral in the town. The wizard, (Crazy.Derf), is probably one of the most renowned in the land and it is he who trains the most talented of wizards and drains their purses. In the south-west corner of town is a small throne room. The queen of Leng (though she is queen in name only) sits there, and bemoans the loss of her Daughter, Ianta. She will reward to the person who can locate Ianta and bring her back to the throne room. In a garden atop the gym, the sage and Puck reside. Puck is a ninja of old and if any martial artist who is worthy were to approach him and offer the correct items (buddha and a special cloth), Puck will bestow to that martial artist, crystal gauntlets of great power. Sandwyrms, hyenas, and manticoras roam the desert plains outside the city walls. Sandstorms constantly move across the plains and occasionally into the town itself. These storms can do great damage to anyone unlucky enough to be caught in their path. A great troll guards the bridge over the rift east of town. A centaur archer, deadly in accuracy, patrols the eastern area outside of the city walls. The plains are not a safe place for the unwary traveller. The graveyard is located south of town, behind a great wall. An adventurer may journey here to access the underworld via a portal that is located within the graveyard. South of town, outside the city gates, is the locker vault, and across the sand, is the Dink Blam Cafe. It is said that that the original proprietor met an untimely demise by uttering the phrase "dink blam and dorp it". No one ever understood the meaning of that phrase, except maybe a few old-timers, but the name of the cafe was changed to the Dink Blam as a tribute to the originator. West of town is a shimmering veil. If one holds a red gem with a pulsing core (many are found on sandwyrms and have been referred to at times as the Sandwyrm's heart), one may access the hidden room that lies behind. In the far north-east corner of the plains is a pit that leads down to the hidden temple. The thaum trainer there is also among the best to be found – his very survival is a testimony of that fact. Beware, however, the down-and-out fighter who often frequents the temple. He has been known to pocket training money quicker than you can say “Ydnar, train me”. The confessor ghost may also be found in the temple. Near the temple, behind a room of darkness and a secret door, is the Amber stairwell. It is named after an ancient ghodess who some claim that actually walked the earth for a time as a mortal. The stairwell is where most adventurers are dropped off when they arrive from Kesmai via the portal that is located in the Kesmai dungeon). From the stairwell, an adventurer may journey down the stairs to sandserpent's passage, climb (or jump) into the shark-infested waters of Lac d'Leng, or simply jump to the east to the surface outside the dark tower. In the far south-east corner of the plains is a small oasis where you will find a climb up to the portal complex. The portal complex is usually guarded by a wight, but is otherwise deserted. There are portals to Kesmai, Axe Glacier and Oakvael each identified by it own unique colour (blue, grey and green respectively). This is also the entry point from all other portals except the one in the Kesmai dungeons. The shimmering portal on the west side of the plains (west of town) leads to a stable complex. The stables were once used to house horses, though nobody has seen a horse in ages. The stables are maintained by a group of hobgoblins. Behind the stables is a secret door leading to some living quarters. In the hallway behind the stables is a small teleport, which is usable by martial artists only and leads to a small, secret complex where the chaotic ninja train. The ninja master, Shidosha, was once a mighty ninja warrior, and is in the process now of training a new generation of the Ninja to terrorise the lands. Any martial artist who can defeat Shidosha will be uniquely rewarded with a buddha, a fan and a satin kimono as well as other treasures. Beware though, combined with his trainees and other creatures he employs as guards, the ninja master presents a formidable enemy. Up the stairs from the stables is a passage that connects the stables to a secret stairway behind the Mausoleum. The rift to the east of Leng town is mostly uninhabited. The lower reaches of the rift may be reached by climbing down any of the several ropes that can be seen. The less cautious traveller may jump straight to the lowest depths by jumping off the middle of the bridge. At the very bottom of the rift, though, is a super troll that acts as a guardian to a locked door. Kill this troll to get the key that will unlock this door, which leads to a portal. Roaming the main level of the dark city are many spell casters, who are fortunately blind in the darkness. On the other hand, there are also many undead wraiths that can see perfectly well in the dark. These are thought by some to be the restless souls of the brotherhood members that lived in the city (and were eventually eaten by Kosh). Their karma was so bad that they were not allowed to leave Praetoseba, so they managed to transport their souls back as chaotic wraiths. Along a passage on the north side of the city are several skeletons and other undead that guard the entrance to the sandserpent's lair. The sandserpent is the result of a test of the summoning powers of the brotherhood, and it was allowed to make a permanent residence in a chamber at the far eastern end of this passage. The base of the dark tower is in the centre of the old city. Many of the passages around the base of the tower are permanently covered in darkness and only those who have nightvision can see to make their way around. Inside the tower are numerous forces of chaos, most of them invisible unless they are next to your position. The base (level 1) and second level are relatively easy with the most difficult adversary being an archer with hide spell. At the third level things really start to get tough. All the creatures here have a powerful hide spell and all are deadly spell casters. Many a new knight has poked his head up to this level, only to die in an instant without catching a single glimpse of his killers. On the fourth level, some of the occupants are visible but many others are not and it is as difficult as the third level to subdue. Many say that the third and fourth levels may only be conquered by the strongest magic. At the very top of the tower lives a potent vampire, Vlad. With him are several powerful creatures including ferocious griffins and salamanders along with a vicious lich. Considering the perils of the lower levels of the tower along with the penthouse, this whole area must be considered one of the most difficult in the entire game. Vlad himself can cast 100+ death spells without the need of chanting, can strike with tooth and nail for similar damage and can inflict a poisonous wound. To make matters worse he is susceptible to only silver weapons or the ice spear of a wizard. On the east side of the city is a grand avenue that ends with a mausoleum to the north. Within the mausoleum is a statue that guards the crypts contained within. It is whispered that the crypts the earthly body of Vlad, though no one has ever found it). Near the mausoleum lives a presence of fear, who will cast a fear spell on the unwary (and sometimes even the wary) adventurer and follow this up with curses. This presence is completely invisible and therefore cannot be killed except by powerful area spells or the turn undead spell. There is a climb south of the Tag range that leads a higher level of the cliffs - home to some powerful griffins. Higher still up the cliffs of Leng is the griffin's rookery. Here, the brotherhood bred these beasts to help with guarding the various portals and other outdoor areas. These griffins are some of the most vicious to be found (except perhaps the lawful griffin of Axe). On this level are many hard hitting hobgoblins, trolls, gargoyles, and berserkers (human fighters) that have chosen to make their home in the wilderness. Beware the scattered scorpions that inhabit this area for they can inflict a terrible stunning or poisonous bite. The Leng chapter of the thieves’ guild keeps its headquarters on this level. During the reign of the brotherhood, thieves were not well liked and even today, the regular townsfolk do not tolerate them. Leng thieves are tough, at least partly, because they must be able to survive the journey to and from the guild. To the north-east of the main plains area is a 100' cliff that leads to the cave of Kosh. This dragon is much tougher than Daisy, being able to take many more hits and hit much harder. Only the most stout of adventurers even consider going there. Kosh can only be hurt by a blue-glowing weapon or a wizard’s ice spear. From Grim's Folly, if you follow the Amber River east, you will find another climb to the even higher level of the cliffs. Following the cavern passage on the southern part of the level – just east of the thieves’ guild entrance - will eventually lead to a stairway, which is the entrance to the dungeons. The adventurous may also jump straight into the dungeons from any of several air drops on this level. One need only mention the name to bring a feeling of dread to most. The brotherhood built the dungeons many years ago, both as a place to keep some of their experiments and as a place to dump prisoners. The catacombs are literally warming with the creatures of chaos, including many of the more powerful undead. There is even a wandering wyrm with a vicious bite. There are undead casters in the dungeons that have learned how to deal with thieves by not automatically retreating to cast their spells, but instead casting them up close. Add to that the hide spell that most of them boast and you have a recipe for a quick death. Apart from the already mentioned, you will encounter more conventional creatures like trios of flailing hobgoblins, trolls, gargoyles, and archers. Many treasures may be found within the dungeons, from simple gold and valuable gems, to various sought after potions – all waiting for an adventurer to come and claim them (if they dare). Had they succeeded, their rule may very well have had no end, and all of the realms would today be covered in permanent darkness. As it is, a Stonehenge complex is found on the level, perhaps waiting for the ghods to intervene and reactivate magic. Many wild creatures roam the woods of this level, including a tiger. Even the ducks have turned chaotic. Well, if the drakes can it, why not the ducks also? As you arrive on the level, to the east (following the amber river from the falls), you will find Jimbo's hut. He is the high martial artist trainer and will train only the most advanced in the ways of hand and foot, dismissing others with a sneer. To the far south is a hut that contains the old knight trainer who took to this very remote hiding place many years ago to avoid the attention of the townsfolk. Finally, behind a secret door, is Ianta. She is the princess of Leng, and an initiate Wizard. She was captured a long time ago and locked up in a room on this level. Sometimes, you may hear her pitiful cry for help (or as some say – her whining). Any that would lead her back to town (and the way is overloaded with peril) can expect to be well rewarded for their efforts. On the far west part of the level is a small glacier, ending in a climb that leads to the cave of the drake- Flash. There, the drake summoned to him a vast array of minions to guard his domain. These include many minotaurs, wearing dragon scales, manticoras and one or two liches. Most of these guardians live outside the inner chamber, though a few were allowed to enter the drake's presence. Flash is bigger and more powerful than his Axe cousin, Sparkles. His size may be due to his voracious appetite, which he appeases with great regularity. The forces of chaos are very strong here and the creatures regenerate very quickly and in great number. So fast is regeneration that one can literally sit and watch as the creatures regenerate. From the bridge leading to Flash’s lair, the are two air hexes that will take the brave warrior to a much ignored minotaur’s lair. The lair is cleft by the same rift and so consists of a north and south side. The north side is usually the more populated and has a compliment of three to five minotaurs and perhaps a scorpion.
